First the closure of 12 stores, now that of the 25 in Italy. Accessorize London, the English brand of low cost costume jewelery and accessories, through the company Melite Italia Srl which manages the points of sale, has in fact presented to the Court of Milan a plan of arrangement with creditors – granted in March – which provides for the closure of all 25 shops in Italy and the consequent dismissal of employees. There are 72 sales employees, mostly women, who are currently on layoffs.
The evolution of the story, which is the epilogue of a crisis that began even before the pandemic, pushes the unions to sound the alarm about the closures of shops, because the brand will not disappear from Italy, where it will continue to sell through the channel and -commerce and small sub-franchises, but closes the shops. Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs have stigmatized the lack of information on the request for an arrangement with creditors and the lack of clarity on the real intentions of the English brand which in Italy is experiencing a crisis that began three years ago. The trade confederates are asking for the dismissals to be revoked and have sent a formal letter to the corporate management of Accessorize London to “try in extremis to take the path of rehabilitation of the economic and financial situation, also with the activation of a table at Mise, reduce the employment impact of announced closures, ”explains a statement. An apparently very difficult path to follow since the company has chosen to close the shops, thus canceling the jobs.
