The fate of the 1,322 workers of Air Italy, a former Meridiana airline in liquidation, is hanging by a thread and increasingly uncertain. In a meeting that took place this morning, in Rome, between trade union representatives, the company and the ministries of Labor and Transport, the liquidator of the company did not express the will to extend the layoffs, according to what was reported to the breaking latest news from union sources. Indeed, the company has reiterated that it is unwilling to ask for an extension of the social safety nets.
At the moment, for the former employees of the airline, the collective dismissal procedure is envisaged, which will start from 9 December, with the conclusion of the liquidation.
The general secretary of Filt Cgil Sardegna Arnaldo Boeddu, disputes the absence of the Sardinia Region at the meeting, despite the assurances on the commitment of the administration given to the trade unions last week by the president of the regional council, Michele Pais, and by the councilor of the Work, Alessandra Zedda. «One cannot accept such a superficial attitude on the part of the institutions, first of all the Mise», stigmatizes Boeddu, «just as we cannot but stigmatize the absence of the Region». A next meeting between all parties should be scheduled for early next week, again convened by the Ministry of Labor.
