Airplanes, social tariffs from Catania and Palermo: -30% for some groups

PALERMO – “For the first time in our country, students and off-site workers, the seriously disabled and those who are forced to move to other regions to be treated will travel to and from Catania and Palermo with a 30% discount on the ticket price “. The news was announced by the Undersecretary for Transport and Infrastructure Giancarlo Cancelleri (M5S).

«As soon as I arrived at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in September 2019 – explains Cancelleri – I immediately set to work to find a solution to the problem of expensive flights to and from Sicily. I started a process that today, just after my reconfirmation, has concluded all the institutional steps. The good news is that, finally, social tariffs are state law ».
“That of social tariffs – underlines the undersecretary – is the umpteenth concrete answer to counter the expensive flights to Sicily that go alongside the territorial continuity activated by and for the airports of Trapani and Comiso”.

Specifically, to and from the Palermo and Catania airports, different categories will purchase tickets with a 30% discount, while territorial continuity is already operational at the Comiso and Trapani airports, i.e. fixed prices for numerous routes. These are certainly first steps, but we have started a process that for the first time will have positive results in the daily life of citizens. Now we need to develop the latest technical details but soon the platform will be online where, by registering, if beneficiaries, Sicilians will be able to access the 30% discount », he concludes.
