Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos will step down on July 5, handing over the helm to cloud computing chief Andy Jassy. This was announced by Bezos himself during the annual shareholders’ meeting of the e-commerce giant, which was held online. “We chose that date because it is important to me, it is the day Amazon was founded in 1994, exactly 27 years ago,” said Bezos quoted by the US media. The announcement of the farewell had already been given in February: Bezos will become executive chairman of the board of directors of Amazon, devoting himself to his other activities, from the Bezos Earth Fund to the space company Blue Origin.
Bezos also said that the retail industry is much more competitive than the smartphone industry: “Consumers can shop from dozens of large national retail chains, hundreds of regional chains, and from thousands of small online and non-online retailers. It is a healthy industry, where we are only a small share ». Then: «Think of the operating systems for smartphones. Can you think of any small and successful companies growing in the industry?
