Apple said it will fix the problem that the “Unlock with Apple Watch” function cannot be used with iPhone 13 devices. The company said that this issue will be fixed in a software update to be released later. Before the update rolls out, you can turn off “Unlock with Apple Watch” and use the device password to unlock iPhone 13.
The specific problem is: if you try to unlock your iPhone while wearing a mask, you may see the message “Cannot communicate with Apple Watch”; or you may not be able to set “Unlock with Apple Watch”.
This feature is designed to make it easier to unlock the iPhone when wearing a mask during the epidemic. It was introduced with iOS 14.5. If you want to use it, you need to use iPhone X and newer models. Both your phone and Watch need to have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled. If the face ID of the phone detects a mask, the system will use the Watch worn by the owner to unlock the phone.
