On Tuesday last week, unknown perpetrators set fire to a freely accessible electricity pylon in a field in eastern Brandenburg, which is part of the power supply for the Tesla factory in Grünheide. The so-called Vulkan group declared in a letter of responsibility that it was responsible for the attack. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office took over the investigation.

The incident becomes an issue for the intelligence services. In recent days, the attack has been a topic of discussion in the secretive Parliamentary Control Committee of the German Bundestag (PKGR) and on Wednesday in the Bundestag’s Interior Committee. The PKGR controls the German intelligence services, the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD). The Office for the Protection of the Constitution is responsible for the case.

The Vulkan group carried out its first attack in 2011, and there have now been ten attacks, primarily on critical infrastructure, investigators reported. The activities took place mainly in the Berlin and Brandenburg area; after each of the attacks there were letters of responsibility and the attacks were each named after a different volcano in the world.
