During the 2021 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), the driverless company AutoX released the fifth-generation fully driverless system AutoX Gen5. The system has been developed for two and a half years and has entered the mass production stage.

According to reports, in terms of core hardware, AutoX Gen5 is equipped with 50 high-definition car-level sensors, including 28 8-megapixel car-level cameras, with a total of more than 220 million pixels per frame; high-resolution 4D millimeter-wave radar, angular The resolution reaches 0.9 degrees; the high-definition lidar can image more than 15 million point clouds per second.

At the same time, AutoX also launched the core computing platform of the fifth-generation system, reaching a computing power of 2200 TOPS. Intel, NVIDIA, Xilinx, and ON Semiconductor are all its partners.

In terms of safety, AutoX stated that in the AutoX safety standards, only ultra-high-definition sensor perception capabilities and vehicle-level domain controllers are not enough. AutoX Gen5 defines the electrical and electronic architecture EEA of the overall autonomous driving domain, so that the global system architecture meets Security requirements. Not only is it designed to ensure multi-layer redundancy to ensure regulatory-level functional safety, each module has also undergone vehicle regulatory-level tests such as shock and impact test, high-temperature and low-temperature testing, and EMC testing to achieve mass-production regulatory-level hardware quality.

High-end hardware foundation also means high cost. In AutoX’s view, in the field of L2-L3 autonomous driving, the behavior of “subtracting” to reduce costs exists, but in the field of RoboTaxi, “cutting corners” is not allowed. Yes, it is necessary to provide high-performance, excellent hardware and architecture to ensure maximum security.

In an interview, AutoX founder Xiao Jianxiong said that AutoX has expanded its AI capabilities through large-scale mass production, self-research, and expanded ODD, thereby generating more revenue and realizing Robotaxi with a higher experience.

At present, AutoX has conducted in-depth cooperation with FCA Chrysler, Honda Motor, Dongfeng Motor, SAIC, BYD, etc. in autonomous driving RoboTaxi applications, vehicle pre-installation mass production and landing operations.

Since 2021, the commercialization of the autonomous driving field has been advancing rapidly, especially in the RoboTaxi scene close to C-end users. Start-ups are competing fiercely. In addition to AutoX, Internet companies such as Baidu and Didi are also accelerating the promotion of RoboTaxi, as well as traditional car companies such as Volkswagen, and autonomous driving startups such as Wenyuan Zhixing and Xiaoma Zhixing.

In the past two years, the number of companies participating in the RoboTaxi track has continued to increase. At the same time, the scope of operations has also continued to expand. Cases of completely driverless have also begun to appear. The autonomous driving system on board also has the ability to solve more scenarios. The industry is accelerating.

But for car companies, the competition in terms of technology, cost and operation is also more intense, and it remains to be seen which company can truly take the lead in large-scale operations and make breakthroughs in commercialization.
