Autostrade, new traffic intervention: off to the third lane between South Florence and Incisa

by admin

A section of the Autostrada del Sole (A1), one of the main junctions for goods and people between the north and the center-south of the country, has been practicable since yesterday with three lanes in each direction in both directions. We are talking about the Tuscan section of the A1 between Firenze Sud and Incisa: about 5 kilometers of asphalt, located in the heart of Chianti, on which thousands of vehicles pass every day, including cars and heavy vehicles. A stretch where queues and congestion are often the order of the day and therefore the transition from two to three lanes, plus the emergency lane, should facilitate traffic. The work is part of the upgrading program of the A1 from Barberino di Mugello to Valdarno, as a natural continuation in the Tuscan territory of the variant of the pass. Yesterday, at the inauguration of the third Firenze Sud-Incisa lane, the top management of Autostrade per l’Italia (Aspi) attended the event together with representatives of the institutions (including the president of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani). The works had started in May 2017. About 30 companies have been involved in the construction site over the years.

The intervention along the Tuscan stretch of the A1 is part of the broader network modernization program launched by Aspi, which will see the company committed between now and 2038 (expiry date of the concession) in investments for 21.5 billion to extend further The useful life of the motorway infrastructures is 50 years, many of which date back to the late 1960s and are now in precarious conditions. Autostrade per l’Italia aims to optimize the state of the network by extending some sections and maintaining bridges, viaducts and tunnels. As regards the Tuscany region alone, Aspi expects to invest approximately 3.8 billion in the network for which it is responsible. The upgrade of the A11 (Firenze-Mare) and the Peretola junction is planned.

The first to speak is the president of Aspi, Giuliano Mari: “All this set of activities, for new investments but also for maintenance and modernization of the network, lead to the opening of as many sites and the high number of sites has repercussions heavy on traffic. We are fully aware of this, but we are also aware of the fact that safety, together with mobility, are unavoidable necessities and we are obliged to follow this line. This investment for the third lane of the A1 Firenze Sud-Incisa – continues Mari – is part of the broader investment program relating to the Tuscan stretch of the Autosole from Barberino to Valdarno, which sees many investments already completed and others will be in the future. In particular, next November, the opening of the Barberino-Calenzano section is planned, where the Santa Lucia tunnel, about 8 kilometers long, is located, for which the largest cutter in Europe has been used ».

Roberto Tomasi, CEO of Aspi, reminds that in the coming weeks the company will make the cashback app available to all users. The app provides for the reimbursement of the automatic toll if, due to work on the motorway, the travel time is significantly longer than the average of the route. «An absolute innovation in Europe» underlines Tomasi.
