Barilla strengthens its commitment to the sustainable transport of its food products. Since last May, new intermodal rail transports have been launched that cross the country both on the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic ridges, from the Parma and Piacenza interports to the terminals of Marcianise, in Campania and with Bari, in Puglia. The initiative, realized thanks to an exclusive agreement with the operator GTS, active in the intermodal transport of goods, allows to travel on trains, instead of road, about 110,000 tons of pasta, sauces, pesto and baked goods. This further investment will manage a flow of about 6 thousand transports per year, which will make it possible to reduce CO2 emissions on average by about 60% (equal to 6,000 tons of CO2 less) compared to road transport and to remove approximately 6,000 trucks, thus ensuring greater road safety and organizational efficiency.
