In 10 years, Barilla has reduced CO2 emissions by 31%. Not only that: Wasa, Gran Cereale, Harrys and Mulino Bianco are the first brands of the group to have reached the goal of Carbon Neutral. This is what emerges from the 2021 sustainability report of the Parma multinational: Barilla has also reduced water consumption per tonne of finished product by 23%, while the total of raw materials purchased responsibly has grown by 19% and sees 10,000 companies involved in projects of sustainable agriculture. For the future, however, Barilla is committed to achieving 100% recyclable packaging. On the nutritional front, the company invested 40 million euros in 2020 alone to develop its products from a healthier perspective: in particular, 60 products have been reformulated to contain less sugar, fat and salt and more fiber and legumes. .

“The commitment made to make its business model increasingly sustainable has also been recognized by the market – reads a note from Barilla – in 2020 the group’s turnover amounted to 3,890 million euros, with a growth of 9 % net of the exchange rate effect, compared to 2019 ». For the five-year period 2020-2024, the group confirms one billion investments in three strategic areas: renovation of industrial assets, development of strategic supply chains, acquisitions in the Italian territory.
