Basilicata, the degree in Medicine is coming

Medicine and Surgery at the University of Basilicata is among the approximately 200 new degree courses approved in Italy for the academic year 2021-2022 by the National University Council (Cun) and proposed to the University System Assessment Agency (Anvur) for the go-ahead from the Ministry of Education, University and Research (Miur). Among the seven single-cycle master’s degree proposals in Medicine and Surgery (LM-41), in the South, in addition to the University of Basilicata, there are those of Medicine and Digital Technologies of Unical (Cosenza) and Magna Graecia University (Catanzaro), of MedTec with a technological and bio-engineering vocation of UniSalento, and that of the Free Mediterranean University (Lum) of Casamassima (Bari).

“Computerization, digitization, telemedicine, but also territorial and service medicine, community and gender and with a strong international footprint are the characterizing features of the Unibas course”, underlines Dr. Domenico Maroscia, retired radiologist, freelance, wanted by Minister Roberto Speranza, representing the Ministry of Health as a member of the Monitoring Committee for the establishment of the course. A challenging assignment to close the start-up process in eight months: from the project idea, to the preparatory acts, to the final decree of the ministry to proceed with the national tender for the assignment of 60 places per year destined for the Unibas course which is it will be held on the Potenza campus and in the nearby “San Carlo” regional hospital, in addition to the Irccs Crob of Rionero in Vulture and in the local health authorities.

The economic sustainability of the project is made possible by an extraordinary funding of 30 million from Miur, the Ministry of Health, the Region and Unibas for 3 years, at the end of which, Medicina will be fully operational. But the Basilicata Region, which will sign a memorandum of understanding, has already pledged to finance the new course of study.
