Berlusconi leaves Mediobanca, Fininvest sells its 2% for 174 million euros

by admin

Fininvest sold the entire stake held in Mediobanca: this was announced by the Berlusconi family holding company that had entered the capital of Piazzetta Cuccia in 2007. institute and was sold for a value of approximately 174 million. The transaction, the note concludes, “is part of a logic of rationalization and rebalancing of its financial investment portfolio”.

Mediobanca prices in today’s session returned to their highest levels since January 2020, reaching 9.8 euros (9.798 euros the top of the day). Fininvest entered the investment bank for the first time in December 2007 with a stake close to 1%, and on that occasion also entered into the institution’s syndicate agreement. During the following year, 2008, the holding had taken over another 1% out of agreement and Marina Berlusconi had joined the board of directors. His brother Pier Silvio Berlusconi was also a director of Piazzetta Cuccia for a few years starting in 2012.

According to Ansa, Fininvest’s stake would have been taken over by Unicredit. And among the hypotheses, the possibility of a sale of the capital to Leonardo Del Vecchio, who is already the first shareholder of Mediobanaca and with the approval of the ECB could reach 20%, takes part.

With Fininvest’s exit from the shareholder base, the consultation agreement existing between some historical shareholders of Mediobanca becomes even lighter: the agreement in place since 2019 collected 12.6% and gathered a dozen shareholders (Doris, Benetton, Fin.Priv, Ferrero, Gavio, Berlusconi, Pecci, Angelini, Lucchini, Seragnoli, Acutis, Minozzi). The sale of 2% by Fininvest therefore reduces this agreement to approximately 10.6% of Mediobanca’s share capital.
