The White House aims to reduce aviation emissions by 20% by 2030, the first step towards achieving a completely carbon-neutral aviation sector by 2050. Washington in a note stresses that President Joe Biden is adopting measures to coordinate leadership and innovation among the federal government, aircraft manufacturers, airlines, fuel manufacturers, airports, and non-governmental organizations to promote the use of cleaner and more sustainable fuels in American aviation . The goal is to produce three billion gallons of sustainable fuel.

Aviation today (including all non-military flights in and out of the United States) accounts for 11% of transportation-related emissions in the United States.
