The world economy is feeling an air of recovery, and this is good news that has been expected for months; however, the increased demand for raw materials by industry seems to raise their prices, with unfavorable repercussions on Italian families: the Energy Authority (Arera) announces that in the second quarter electricity bills will rise by 3, 8% and those of methane by + 3.9%. However, in the year as a whole, consumers still benefit from slightly lower energy tariffs: for electricity, the typical household spending on an annual basis will be 517 euros, that is -0.7% compared to the equivalent 12 months of the year. ‘previous year (1 July 2019 – 30 June 2020), with a small saving of 4 euros on an annual basis. In the same period, the typical household’s expenditure for the gas bill will be 966 euros, with a variation of -5.2% compared to the equivalent 12 months of the previous year, corresponding to a saving of 52 euros on an annual basis. The typical family, therefore, still benefits from lower costs of 56 euros.
The Arera also approved the resolution implementing the Sostegni decree-law which will reduce bills for small businesses by 600 million euros (non-domestic low voltage users, such as small businesses, artisans, bars, restaurants, laboratories, professionals and services). The provision will benefit 3.7 million subjects and will lead to a discount in the months of April, May and June, which will be higher in percentage terms for commercial establishments forced to close by measures to combat the epidemic (as action is taken by reducing the fixed quotas of bills).
In particular, in a similar way to what happened last spring, the discount reaches about 70 euros per month for a customer with a contract with a power of 15 kW and will be particularly incisive on the total cost of the bill for commercial businesses still forced to close. , reducing it up to 70%. For businesses that can remain open, the savings will correspond on average to 20-30% of the total cost of the bill. These reductions do not impact on the charges placed on other consumers, as they are financed by specific allocations from the State Budget.
