The Milan Stock Exchange closed up a day marked by US macro data. In Milan, the Ftse Mib index closed at 25,056 points, up 1.12%. Side to the rally in the markets comes from US macro data: US GDP rose 6.4% in the first quarter, just below the 6.5% growth expected by the consensus. This is the fastest growth rate for the US economy in nearly four decades in the first quarter. Positive indications especially from the requests for unemployment benefits, which fell to 406,000 from the 444,000 units of the previous week, to the new low since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Among the big names in Piazza Affari to pull off today’s rally are the titles of the Agnelli galaxy: + 5.03% CNH and + 4.09% Stellantis. The president of Stellantis, John Elkan, remarked that five months after the birth of the group, the expectations were confirmed by the facts with “very encouraging” first quarter results. The banking sector is also dusting with + 2.07% for Unicredit, Banco BPM is better (+ 2.58% at € 2.908) which updates the top since March 2018, remaining at the center of the banking risk items. Intesa Sanpaolo also rose well with + 2.05% to 2.394 euros.

Further back, however, Bper (+ 1.28%), yesterday the protagonist of a violent turnaround after Unipol’s move to acquire a stake of up to 9.5% in Popolare Sondrio, an operation that brings the possibility of a future Bper-Sondrio deal closer.

Among the few minus signs, Enel stands out (-0.15%).
