In this way, they make a significant contribution to complying with legal emission limits and regulations on on-board diagnostics. For this reason, the replacement of defective and worn sensors is of fundamental importance. In addition to lambda sensors, particulate sensors and differential pressure sensors, the Bosch range is now enriched with exhaust gas temperature sensors and, an absolute novelty, nitrogen oxide sensors, available for most of the vehicles on the European market. These components, combined with the Denoxtronic exhaust gas treatment system, complete the product range of the Bosch workshops. Bosch has decades of experience in sensor technology. For example, the lambda probes, used to measure and optimize the air / fuel mixture of diesel and petrol engines, were created by Bosch. In addition, the company has also been at the forefront of particulate sensors for monitoring diesel engine particulate filters. In addition to this, Bosch supplies vehicle manufacturers around the world with a large number of exhaust gas sensors. Reliable analysis of the composition of the exhaust gases is essential to treat them efficiently. For this purpose, modern cars and commercial vehicles are equipped with several sensors installed in the exhaust system. All these sensors are integrated into the on-board diagnostic system and, in case of any anomalies, they can be easily identified and checked using a diagnostic tester such as, for example, Bosch KTS. If they are found to be defective, Bosch components can be replaced quickly and easily. More and more diesel cars and an increasing number of light and heavy commercial vehicles are equipped with nitrogen oxide sensors. Through a particularly resilient and heat-resistant ceramic element, these sensors measure the quantity of nitrogen oxide (NOx) downstream of the SCR catalyst. Some types of engines include a second nitrogen oxide sensor also upstream of the system. The sensors monitor the amount of urea (AdBlue) injected into the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst in order to reduce NOx emissions. In addition, they also monitor SCR components. As SCR technology is used more and more frequently, nitrogen oxide sensors are also becoming more important in the aftermarket and workshop world. The current Bosch range, which is continuously expanding, currently comprises 24 items, including sensors that are compatible with various vehicles. Exhaust gas temperature sensors can be installed at various points in the exhaust system of diesel and gasoline engines. They measure the temperature of the exhaust gases and send an electrical signal to the engine control unit. Used in diesel engines, these sensors monitor the temperature of the particulate filter, contributing significantly to compliance with emission limit values ​​and fuel efficiency. Used in gasoline engines, exhaust gas temperature sensors protect essential components, such as catalysts and turbochargers. Since July 2020, the Bosch aftermarket range for workshops includes around 90 items, corresponding to most vehicles from European manufacturers. Since 2019, workshops have been able to order particle sensors from Bosch. The range includes 40 items and is constantly expanding. Particulate sensors analyze the amount of particles contained in diesel emissions by measuring resistance. On the basis of the values ​​thus obtained, the control unit analyzes the functionality of the particulate filter. Before each measurement, the sensor element is regenerated by heating, so that it is always in the same condition for all measurements. Differential pressure sensors measure the pressure difference of the particle sensor. The measured values ​​provide information on the condition of the particulate filter to start its regeneration, saving fuel: the so-called automatic cleaning or combustion of particulate matter. Differential pressure sensors are also used to control low pressure exhaust gas recirculation. Bosch’s current range includes over 40 items covering most sensors on the European market. Lambda sensors determine the quantity of oxygen contained in the exhaust gas. On the basis of this value, the electronic control unit calculates the optimal quantity of fuel to be injected into the combustion chamber. Lambda probes are used in petrol, diesel and gas engines. The Bosch range includes lambda probes that can be installed on over 80% of all vehicles on the market. Thanks to their measurement accuracy, these probes contribute to better engine performance and correct exhaust gas treatment. A new lambda probe, in fact, saves up to 15% of fuel compared to a worn one. The Denoxtronic exhaust gas treatment system, increasingly used in diesel vehicles, also generates further potential for automotive workshops. The system injects an aqueous solution of urea (AdBlue) into the exhaust system. In combination with the SCR catalyst, it transforms harmful NOx into water and nitrogen.
