A growth of 12.5% ​​in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year with a turnover of 37.4 million. These are the numbers that confirm the dynamism and the drive for growth of Callipo, the Calabrian company of quality fish preserves that closed 2020 with a turnover of 67,409 million, an increase of 7.6% compared to 2019. of the first six months of 2021, also driven by exports which account for 10% of the company’s global turnover and exceed 3.7 million with a growth of 16.5% thanks to the entry into new markets such as Morocco and to the consolidation of others such as the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, which recorded strong growth in the Food Service channel.

Overall, the results are the result of a development strategy carried out by the company based in Pizzo in the province of Vibo Valentia aimed at diversifying both the sales channels and the products and in 2020 it was decided to aim further in this direction by expanding the also offered to references that go beyond the core business of the fish world with the Callipo Dalla Nostra Terra and Callipo 1913 brands. The “best seller” products in the first half of 2021 remain fish preserves with the classic Tuna Fillets in olive oil in jars of glass of 170gr and the “boxes” of tuna in olive oil in the 80gr x3 format, comfort food par excellence even during the lockdown. E-commerce is also growing, even if the specific weight is still low for a company that is very present, for example in large-scale distribution: in 2019 the Callipo online shop (shop.callipo.com) had a turnover of approximately 183,000 euros and value has tripled in 2020 with an annual close of over 600,000 euros. In the first six months of 2021, the first quarter was the best performing with “excellent results in January (+ 116%) and February (+ 67%) compared to the same months of the previous year” explain the company.

“We are also facing the second half of 2021 with optimism – says Giacinto Callipo, son of Pippo and representative of the fifth generation of the family – strengthened by the positive trend already recorded in the first months”. Among the plans of the company, which employs 200 people, is the inauguration by the end of the year of the new warehouse in the industrial area of ​​San Pietro in Lamezia Terme, 15 kilometers from the production plant. “This is – explains Giacinto – an investment of over 5 million euros that will allow us to have a storage capacity for finished products double compared to the current one and, at the same time, will allow us to expand the packaging department using the area previously used as a warehouse at the Maierato plant. With this third warehouse, the production process will be spread over three sites: the tuna raw material warehouse in the Gioia Tauro Port Area, the processing in the Maierato plant, the finished product warehouse in the San Pietro Industrial Area ».
