In 2023, Cameroon recorded the best quantity of maize imports within the five-year interval 2018-2023. According to information compiled by the National Institute of Statistics, 39,991.3 tons of corn have been imported.

This strengthening of corn imports from Cameroon after 2021 coincides with the strengthening of native provide, following the entry into service, in November 2021, of a corn mill inside the Compagnie fermière du Cameroun (Cfc), be aware the INS in its report “Cameroon’s international commerce in 2022”.

A subsidiary of the agro-industrial firm Società Anonymous de Beverages of Cameroon, managed by the French Castel group, CFC has a manufacturing capability of 30,000 tonnes of gritz corn (used within the manufacturing of beer) annually. This processing unit permits the chief of the beer manufacturing trade in Cameroon.

The explosion of corn imports recorded in Cameroon in 2023 can have two explanations. First, a slowdown in gritz manufacturing at Maïscam or within the cooperatives managed by the CFC. Secondly, the rise in purchases of corn by operators within the nationwide poultry sector.
