Investing.com – Canada equities were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , , and the sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, Canada, it was down 0.65%.

The best performers of the session were Dollar Store Corporation (TSX: ), which rose 5.27% or 3.68 points to trade at 73.49 at the close. Meanwhile, Baytex Energy Corp (TSX: ) added 4.79% or 0.40 points to end at 8.75 and Crescent Point Energy Corp (TSX: ) added 3.46% or 0.45 points to end at 13.46 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX: ), which lost 19.78% or 6.69 points to trade at 27.14. Ero Copper Corp (TSX: ) lost 6.87% or 1.08 points to end at 14.64 and TFI International Inc (TSX: ) lost 5.49% or 5.87 points to 101.05.

On the Toronto Stock Exchange, 692 stocks fell, outnumbering gainers by 329, while 109 stocks were unchanged.

Shares in Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX: ) fell to three-year lows, losing 19.78% or 6.69 to 27.14. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX: ) shares rose to highs; gaining 4.79% or 0.40 to 8.75. Shares in Crescent Point Energy (TSX: ) rose to highs; up 3.46% or 0.45 to 13.46.

The implied volatility of options on Canada’s Toronto S&P/TSX composite index rose 3.31% to 17.81.

Gold futures August options contracts were up 0.13% or 2.45 points to hit $1,854.55. For the rest of the futures, the price of the July delivery WTI crude oil futures contract rose 2.65% (3.17 points) to $122.58, while the August London Brent crude oil futures contract rose 2.84% (3.43) to trade at $124.00.

CAD/USD remained unchanged by 0.18% at 0.80, while CAD/EUR was basically flat at 0.29% at 0.74.

U.S. dollar index futures were up 0.23% at 102.56.
