(Zhuhai, 14th comprehensive report) Digital imaging equipment maker Canon (Canon) will close a factory that has been in operation for more than 30 years.

Caixin confirmed from a number of people close to Canon that Canon Zhuhai Co., Ltd. issued an announcement on Wednesday (12th) that the company was facing huge operational difficulties and decided to terminate the company’s production after research.

A person from Zhuhai High-tech Zone told Caixin that the global camera market has shrunk sharply, and the impact of the epidemic has caused Canon’s Zhuhai factory to face difficulties. The headquarters adjusted the group’s overall operating structure and terminated production at the factory.

A person close to Canon told Caixin: “Under the epidemic, the Zhuhai factory has been in a state of semi-shutdown. Previously, in order to maintain operations, the headquarters gave Canon Zhuhai all the maintenance of some ‘Three Guarantees’ machines and warranty machines, but they were unable to do so. Back to the sky, coupled with the impact of the epidemic, it is no surprise that production has been stopped.”
