The president of Confapi (the Italian Confederation of Private Small and Medium Industry) Maurizio Casasco, was today unanimously elected president of Cea-Pme, the European Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises. Cea-Pme, based in Brussels, brings together 24 associations of small and medium industry, for a total of over 2.1 million associated companies and 18 million employees. The President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, spoke at the assembly and reiterated the wide-ranging commitment to support European SMEs.
Casasco succeeds the German Mario Ohoven, who passed away last year, of which he was first vice president. The new president, supported in the election by the German Confederation BVMW, addressed his first memory to his predecessor, declaring that he wanted to “collect and follow up on his tireless activity and his precious legacy in the representation of SMEs, which are the resilient backbone of the European economy and which must be the beating heart of the recovery ».
«It is time to act now, now or never – said Casasco – The Recovery Fund is an unmissable opportunity for the modernization of the European production system and the acceleration towards an increasingly green, digital and competitive economy. We must face the challenges that this very delicate historical moment confronts us with investment policies in human capital and long-term actions such as the strategic partnership with Africa, fundamental for the European economy. The EU must put value chains at the center, bringing strategic productive assets back within itself, putting a brake on its dependence on other continents ”.
