[TechWeb]News on July 30, according to foreign media reports, on Thursday, lithium-ion battery manufacturer CATL (CATL) released the first generation of sodium-ion batteries, which makes it the first large-scale car battery to release sodium-ion batteries manufacturer.

The company stated in a press release that its first-generation sodium-ion battery has the advantages of high energy density, high rate charging, excellent thermal stability, good low-temperature performance and high integration efficiency. The energy density of its battery cell is as high as 160Wh/kg; charging at room temperature for 15 minutes, the power can reach more than 80%.

Huang Qisen, deputy dean of the Ningde Times Research Institute, said that the energy density of its new sodium-ion batteries is still lower than that of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, but they perform well in cold weather and fast charging.

CATL said it plans to establish a sodium-ion battery supply chain in 2023. At present, the company has started the industrialization layout of sodium-ion batteries, and a basic industrial chain will be formed in 2023.

CATL is a power battery system provider, focusing on the research and development, production and sales of new energy vehicle power battery systems and energy storage systems. The company is a supplier of Tesla, Weilai Automobile, Xiaopeng Automobile and Ideal Automobile. It has occupied about half of China’s market share for a long time. (Little Fox)
