Citigroup is preparing to fire unvaccinated employees, applying a policy previously announced last year. This is the indiscretion reported today by the Bloomberg news agency. Unvaccinated employees will be put on unpaid leave on January 14 and lose their jobs at the end of the month.

Citi will thus be the first major Wall Street bank to begin enforcing a “no-jab, no job” policy as the financial sector grapples with the daunting task of getting office workers back to safety.

Citigroup in October stated that it will require U.S. employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment. In recent weeks, all the major US banks have told employees to work from home, but many of them are ready to return to ask for presence in the office, tightening conditions. These include Goldman Sachs, which will ask employees to be vaccinated from February 1, will require a booster for all employees eligible to receive the new dose.
