Cosulich invests in a gas tanker to supply ships in the Mediterranean with LNG

by admin

The Fratelli Cosulich group focuses on the ecological transition with a gas tanker to supply other ships in the Mediterranean with LNG (liquefied natural gas). This is a project that aims to solve the problem of the supply of methane for the increasingly numerous ships that use this type of propulsion in the mare nostrum; and it is also an important step, at European level, for an infrastructural development oriented towards sustainable mobility and with low environmental impact.

Bper Banca, as organizing institution, Banca Popolare di Sondrio and Cdp, making use of Sace’s green guarantee, therefore supported the Genoese group, specialized in shipping and logistics services related to the maritime transport industry, finalizing a loan of 31.5 million euros, to which are added additional resources, amounting to 4.5 million euros, by the European Commission.

The resources, explains a note, will be used for the construction of a ship that will allow the distribution of LNG. The project involves the construction of a 5,300-ton gas carrier, in turn fueled by natural gas, for the transport and refueling of LNG to large ships (both cruise and cargo) in transit in the Mediterranean.

The unit will carry up to 8 thousand cubic meters of gas and, the note continues, “it will boast the most advanced technologies available”. In fact, a system will be installed on board that will completely eliminate potential environmental impacts.

It is, the note concludes, “a project which, in terms of climate change mitigation and with reference to the development of transport systems using alternative fuels, falls within the objectives of green new deal, the plan that promotes a circular Europe – modern, sustainable and resilient – an area in which Sace has been called upon to play a central role with its green guarantees, as envisaged by the Simplification decree law “(76/2020). The Watson Farley Williams law firm collaborated in completing the transaction.
