Covid does not hold back foreign companies: + 8.7% in the two years of the pandemic

With almost 650 thousand companies, 10.7% of the total, at the end of March 2022 foreign entrepreneurship is confirmed as a structural component of the Italian entrepreneurial fabric, present in 94% of Italian municipalities and capable of crossing unscathed – indeed expanding its perimeter – the Covid emergency.

Between the end of March 2020 and March 31 of this year, the number of companies led by people born outside the national borders grew by 54 thousand units, or 8.7%, against an average growth of the total number of companies in the 2.3% in the period.

This is stated by the data from the Register of Companies of the Chambers of Commerce processed by Unioncamere-InfoCamere in the period from March 31, 2020, coinciding with the start of the health emergency phase, and March 31 of this year.

As for the rest of the country’s entrepreneurial fabric, incentives for the recovery of the building stock contributed to the driving force: 39% of all the increase in foreign companies was in fact recorded in the construction sector (+20,974 units) .

Growth is led by Romania and Albania, but Nigerian and Pakistani companies also increase significantly.
