BRUSSELS (ITALPRESS) – As the epidemiological situation improves and vaccination campaigns accelerate across the EU, the Commission proposes that Member States gradually ease travel measures. The Commission has also proposed to update the common criteria for areas at risk and to introduce an “emergency brake”, to deal with any resurgence of the pandemic, caused by new variants considered worrying. According to Didier Reynders, Commissioner for Justice, “the past few weeks have led to a continuing downward trend in infection numbers, demonstrating the success of vaccination campaigns across the EU. In parallel, we are also encouraging the possibility of testing. accessible and widely available. In this context, Member States are now slowly lifting COVID-19 restrictions at both national and travel level. Today we propose that Member States coordinate this gradual lifting of free movement restrictions, taking into account of our new common tool: the EU Covid digital certificate. Now we expect member states to make the best use of this tool and the recommendation to allow everyone to move freely and safely again “. Stella Kyriakides, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, stressed that “freedom of movement is one of the rights most dear to EU citizens: we need coordinated and predictable approaches for our citizens that offer clarity and avoid inconsistent requirements. between Member States. We want to be able to move towards the reopening of our societies in the coming weeks in a safe and coordinated manner. As vaccination is progressing at an increasing rate, we can be confident that safe and unrestricted free movement can gradually resume. with more optimism, we must remain cautious and always put the protection of public health first “. According to the European Commission, fully vaccinated people holding vaccination certificates in line with the EU’s Covid digital certificate should be exempted from the 14-day travel test or quarantine after receiving the last dose. This should also cover recovered people who have received a single dose of a vaccine. Persons holding certificates that are in line with the EU digital COVID certificate should be exempt from travel testing or quarantine during the first 180 days after a positive covid test. As regards the so-called “emergency brake”, Member States should reintroduce travel measures for vaccinated and cured people if the epidemiological situation deteriorates rapidly or if a high prevalence of worrying variants has been reported. To ensure family unity, minors traveling with their parents should be exempt from quarantine when parents do not have to undergo quarantine, for example due to vaccination. Children under the age of 6 should also be exempt from travel-related tests. (ITALPRESS). abr / com 31-May-21 17:32
