ROME (ITALPRESS) – According to data from an Istat report, the words that citizens have chosen to use to describe the days during the second epidemic wave confirm the difficulties faced during the period. Only 34.1% used words of positive meaning, 44.7% expressed themselves negatively and 21.2% in neither negative nor positive terms. However, the situation has clearly improved compared to the lockdown in April 2020, when 56.9% expressed themselves with negative opinions and only 20.6% positively. However, during the second epidemic wave 12% of respondents (or a member of their family) had to face critical issues in the family budget such as to resort to economic aid (loans, public subsidies or other) or to the sale of property. Specifically, 8.6% of the population applied for public aid (various bonuses, emergency income, etc.), 3.6% received money as a gift from relatives or friends, 2.6% borrowed from relatives or friends, 1.7% turned to credit institutions, 0.7% offered property for sale. Following the health emergency, part of the population encountered difficulties in meeting their economic commitments such as, for example, paying the mortgage, bills, rent, etc. 13.4% of the interviewees (or a cohabiting family member) had problems with the payment of bills (11.8% had to postpone payment, 9.1% were unable to pay them), 16.5 % had to give up on holidays. 13.9% were unable to cope with an unexpected expense, 6.3% were unable to pay the installments of a mortgage or a loan or the necessary expenses for meals while 6.7% were not managed to pay the rent. For more than three out of four citizens, the pandemic has had no impact on the family’s economic situation. However, for 20.5% the economic conditions worsened compared to the period before the health emergency, especially among people aged 25-44 (26.7%), less among the elderly (12% after 64 years) . Among men aged 25-34, it reaches 31.6% (21.6% among women of the same age group) while the share of those who declared an improvement in conditions is decidedly more contained (2.8%) family economic.
