Reverse spread between Italy and Germany regarding the prices of tampons to detect Covid. If in Italy the rapid tampons cost around 8 euros, in Germany only 3.75 euros. “A serious fact” defines the Codacons, “and even more serious considering that German citizens are entitled to a free quick test once a week (twice for teachers and students attending face-to-face courses)”. Considering also the difference in terms of per capita income between the two countries, the inequity is very evident. And it is not the only one: just think that the PCR test to detect the presence of the coronavirus, free for the French, is billed on average between 60 and 80 euros in Italy.
“How is this difference justified, for an identical product, in Europe? What excuses can the companies that produce these tampons in Italy make to justify such an over-price? And what do the institutions do, in the face of cases of this kind, which penalize Italian citizens? “, the Codacons asks. While waiting for answers, the association asks the institutions to start monitoring the prices applied to products and services related to Covid-19, object – not only in recent months – of physiological attention by citizens. At such a time it is even more important to ensure fair prices for tampons, and in line with European standards.
