Cupra has won the challenge of independence An electric city car and two SUVs are on the way

It all started here four years ago with Luca De Meo, the then ceo of Seat (now number one of Renault) who with his “believers” wanted to transform the Cupra brand from a fitting name for some Seats to a real car brand. within the Volkswagen group. Now, after excellent results and a difficult challenge won, Cupra shows the path designed for the future which includes three new electrified models by 2025 and a series of synergies that will allow the brand to enter a new era by launching the strategy called «The Unstoppable Impulse ». Almost 200 thousand units have been sold from 2018 to today and turnover has grown from 430 million euros in 2018 to almost 2.2 billion euros in 2021. And for the current year, Cupra wants to raise the bar even more to double the number of sales, turnover and the network of Cupra Master and Cupra City Garage. But not only that, by 2025 the goal is to deliver 500,000 cars a year. A brand that has managed to stand out from the crowd by creating a tribe of aficionados for style, technologies and its vision.

The first model was the Ateca suv, followed by Leon (available in various engines including plug-in hybrid) and Formentor, the latter being the first to be 100% made in Cupra. One year old, the Cupra Born SUV, the first electric-powered vehicle, arrived.

But Cupra’s history and ambition goes far beyond. And on this occasion, CEO Wayne Griffiths announced the goal of delivering 500,000 cars a year by 2025 and pursuing the strategy of international expansion and reaching new markets and new segments. And to do this, three electrified models have been announced, i.e. hybrid or 100% electric: Terramar, Tavascan and UrbanRebel.

Terramar, expected in 2024, is a 4.5-meter sports SUV equipped with advanced plug-in hybrid technology that allows you to reach up to 100 km in 100% electric mode. A model that pays homage to the birthplace of the brand (Terramar) and that combines bold and sporty proportions. The goal will be to bring the brand to a higher market segment in the SUV segment. In addition, this model will debut engines equipped with the new Phev technology that aims at performance and sportiness, as in the brand’s DNA.

Following will come Tavascan (also in 2024), a model that embodies the vision of a lithium-ion car of the Cupra brand and rather faithful to the 2019 concept. This model has been identified to lead to the expansion of the brand into new markets. The launch is scheduled for 2024. Finally, the flagship scheduled for 2025: Cupra Urban Rebel, the electric city car designed and developed in Barcelona and produced in the Martorell plant. A car that will have to take the brand further and will be the key to access the Cupra world.
