A drone fleet is intended to deliver urgently needed parts to companies in Lüdenscheid.

The logistics service starts on Wednesday on a fixed flight route.

The Federal Aviation Office has granted approval for a commercial scheduled flight of this type for the first time.

A fully automated drone fleet is intended to deliver urgently needed parts from the air to companies in the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Lüdenscheid, which has been severely affected by the Rahmede bridge disaster on the A45, across the traffic jams. The drone airline’s new logistics service will take off regularly on Wednesday on a fixed flight route, as announced by the companies involved. The Federal Aviation Office has granted approval for a commercial scheduled flight of this type for the first time in Germany. There had previously been a test operation in the city in Sauerland.

The drone manufacturer Third Element Aviation from Bielefeld and the Lüdenscheid-based Koerschulte Group as project partners see many advantages in fast and environmentally friendly air logistics for companies that suffer from the precarious traffic situation. The A45 is interrupted near Lüdenscheid after the Rahmede motorway bridge was first closed and then blown up.

Traffic chaos and delivery delays are among the consequences. A new transport drone is intended to fly packages on a defined route to the destination and drop them off there as part of a so-called last mile delivery. Experts see great potential for many areas of application in Germany.
