Electricity and gas sting: tariffs rise again in the second quarter of 2021

by admin

Sting for the pockets of Italian consumers. ARERA has published the update of the electricity and gas tariffs for the second quarter of 2021 which shows a + 3.9% for gas and + 3.8% for electricity. Increases dictated by the growth trend of the prices of raw materials.

“For the second consecutive quarter, tariffs rise, confirming an upward trend determined both by speculations on the wholesale energy market and by expensive gasoline which, exactly as foreseen by Codacons in recent days, had direct effects on tariffs – says the president of Codacons, Carlo Rienzi – The energy bills of the Italians are thus among the highest in Europe, and an unsustainable taxation weighs on the expenditure of Italians for electricity and gas: almost half of the gas bill will go away from 1 April for charges and taxes (43.1%), while for electricity, taxation weighs 33.1% on each invoice.

“The Draghi government must immediately put a hand to the sector, reducing system charges and taxes that weigh like a boulder on Italians’ energy expenditure, further impoverishing families, especially large and medium-low income families, already affected by the economic crisis caused by the pandemic ”, Concludes Rienzi.
