Elon Musk announced last month that he had found a replacement for the post of Twitter CEO.
US executive Linda Yaccarino takes over from Musk on Twitter and said she started her new job on Monday.
It started two weeks ahead of schedule as Twitter’s ad business is currently struggling.
Elon Musk is no longer CEO von Twitteras Linda Yaccarino started working at the company on Monday.
At 5:17 German time tweeted the manager: “It happened – the first day in the books!”
Yaccarino was originally scheduled to start around June 22, as Musk tweeted on May 11 that she would start in six weeks. Now she’s taking over Musk’s position on Twitter two weeks ahead of schedule.
“My role will transition to Executive Chair & CTO overseeing product, software and sysops,” Musk said.
He has been CEO of the company since buying Twitter for $44 billion last October. According to shareholder Fidelity, the company is now worth a third of that.
Musk first announced his stepping down as Twitter CEO in December after users voted in a poll.
As recently as April, he instead joked that his dog was now the boss.
Yaccarino facing a difficult task
Yaccarino takes on the difficult task of making Twitter profitable and reviving the advertising business.
According to an internal presentation by the „New York Times“ Twitter ad revenue in the US is down 59 percent compared to the same period last year — and regularly underperforms weekly forecasts by as much as 30 percent.
Business Insider reported that Musk is prioritizing Twitter’s live video service. Some advertisers are speculating that he wants to make the platform more video-focused.
Yaccarino’s prompt start follows the resignations of two top executives in Twitter’s security department.
Musk said they quit Twitter in connection with the controversy over limiting the viewability of What is a Woman, a documentary about transgender people by conservative commentator Matt Walsh.
