Enel Gp: “Deserted auctions for renewables, Italy does what Germany does”

by admin

«With the last auction awarded on Thursday for incentives on renewable plants announced by the GSE, we have hit rock bottom. It is necessary to remedy ». Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel Green Power, raises the alarm about the paralysis towards which Italy is heading in terms of its capacity to build renewable plants. And this with the Recovery Plan commitments to be respected and a national plan that is about to raise the target from 42 to 60 gigawatts by 2030. «We should do like Germany. The simplification decree is the last chance », he warns.

Doctor Bernabei what is happening?

We started in 2019 with 100% of projects awarded, but it was the first tender, it was a small lot and there were many projects waiting to be realized. Then the percentages fell: the second 84%, then 41%, 24% in February and now we are at 5%. Only 74 megawatts out of 1,581 megawatts of wind and photovoltaics for lots larger than one megawatt. This means that in the last two years there has been no pipeline regeneration process and this is because there are no permits. The process is severely deteriorating and the gravity of the situation does not seem to be perceived.

What are we risking?

From 2019 they have a Pniec (energy and climate plan, ed) which plans to achieve 42 gigawatts by 2030: this means making 4,200 megawatts per year and instead with auctions in two years we are just 1,600. The point is that Italy will have to update the Pniec to align itself with the new targets of the EU Commission. There is talk of about 60 gigawatts to be built by 2030. We will never get there. Yet the goal is not impossible, it takes courage and a radical choice in the way to proceed.
