For example, the Cartiere di Guarcino, in the province of Frosinone. Among the many energies with the prefix “bio”, such as bioliquids, biomethane and biomass, there are about fifteen companies that obtain do-it-yourself energy with large electric and thermal plants powered by liquid biofuels, such as waste oil mills, vegetable fats, the liquid extracted with the regeneration of the filters of the food industry. Another fifty companies produce energy from bioliquids in plants smaller than one megawatt.
Bioliquids and timber
“In all, we are talking about plants in Italy for about 200 megawatts”, observes Alessandro Brusa, director of the Confindustria Elettricità Futura association who closely follows the bioliquids segment.
But non-fossil fuels are a very wide range, widespread «and unfortunately underestimated and often even opposed. Bioliquids, almost as if they didn’t exist, ”protests Brusa.
Little consideration is also given to biomass such as sawmill waste used by various municipalities in the Alps for district heating systems in built-up areas.
The Fiper association has carefully studied the thermal power plants fed with woody material in the Pusteria Valley and the Venosta Valley (Alto Adige), or the experiences in various towns in Lombardy such as Sondalo (Sondrio), but also Leinì (Turin) or Londa (Florence).
