ROME. Terna, the company that manages the Italian electricity transmission grid, has awarded a tender worth a total of 360 million euros for the construction of new electricity stations throughout the country. The 22 contracting companies (6 from the North, 10 from the Center, 6 from the South), in the form of Temporary Groupings of Competitors, are all Italian and highly specialized due to the complexity of the processes. This was announced by a note from Terna. Specifically, the activities will concern the design and “turnkey” construction of power stations to be installed over the next 5 years in the nerve centers of the national transmission grid (both for new connections and to replace pre-existing plants) mainly in the Central-Southern Italy. The structures, in fact, will be functional to the integration of energy produced from renewable sources, in particular wind and photovoltaic parks, and will contribute to improving the efficiency, sustainability and resilience of the national electricity grid, also with a view to decarbonising the energy system. Italian.

The tender procedure was carried out according to the current legislation on tenders for special sectors and assigned the 5 lots in which it was awarded to the 22 successful tenderers (6 from the North, 10 from the Center, 6 from the South) subdivided. In particular, Terna has included among the technical assessment criteria also the presence of sustainability requirements – such as the use of recycled materials and the possession of environmental and energy certifications – and those of legality and safeguarding the health and safety of workers. . This is part of Terna’s sustainable approach to the territory – a strategic lever for the company’s investments – thanks to the construction of infrastructures that meet the needs of the electricity system and at the same time are integrated into the environment, in some cases also enhancing the territories themselves: examples are the Capri electrical station, a unique innovative design model resulting from a design competition organized by Terna, and the Suvereto (Livorno) electrical station for which Terna strongly wanted an architectural contest to make the infrastructure aesthetically harmonious with the landscape. The tender is part of the execution of the activities envisaged by Terna’s 2021-2025 Industrial Plan and aims to enable, even in this period of Covid-19 emergency, an efficient and safe production restart of small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector , in support of the economic recovery of the entire industrial chain involved and therefore of the country. Terna currently manages over 74,000 km of high and very high voltage electricity grids, 888 stations and 736 transformers through 4 control centers throughout Italy. Overall, Terna employs around 2,000 suppliers, the vast majority of them Italian (97%), used every year in hundreds of construction sites: these are mostly small and medium-sized companies, active in the construction sectors. and electromechanics, but also ICT and innovative services.
