IT Home September 11 News Epic Games and Apple’s one-year-long lawsuit ushered in a milestone. The US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers made a verdict, but it was not the result that Epic Games or Apple hoped to see.

Judge Rogers asked Apple to allow US developers to guide users to use payment methods outside of Apple’s in-app purchase system. In addition, the ruling also ensures that developers can clearly mention other payment methods.

IT Home learned that Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said through social media that the company is not satisfied with the verdict and currently has no plans to return “Fortress Night” to the App Store.

Sweeney called today’s ruling “not a victory” for developers or consumers. He also said that when Epic can provide “in-app payments that compete with Apple’s in-app payments”, “Fortress Night” will return to the App Store, but the specifics are still unclear.

Although Epic is not satisfied with this ruling, other companies that have disputes with Apple support this ruling. Horacio Gutierrez, Spotify’s legal director, said that Spotify was “satisfied” with this result and called for legislation to further address Apple’s anti-competitive behavior.

Epic Games plans to appeal some of the rulings it disapproves, and Apple may also appeal. Apple’s lawyers told the media that they are still analyzing the judge’s decision.
