On the evening of March 28, the negotiation with the Ministry of Labor for the extraordinary layoff in Acciaierie d’Italia, formerly Ilva, was canceled. The cash register, connected to the industrial restructuring, therefore starts from the same day of the 28th and involves 3 thousand employees, of which 2,500 in Taranto alone, for a year. After the meeting on Friday 25 at the ministry, the parties had re-updated to try to bring the positions closer together, very distant both between the unions and the company and between the unions themselves.
After several hours of discussion, the former Ilva proposed a reduction of the cash to 2,750 units (but last Friday it had dropped to 2,800) and the recognition of an economic integration to the same fund with the accrual of the thirteenth month. However, this proposal was not considered sufficient by the unions. Which they relaunched asking for a decrease in cash as steel production went up, also introducing tools to manage everything.
The reasons for the breakdown of the table
In the end, the negotiation jumped, resulting in the no agreement, because the unions contested the former Ilva the fact that the extraordinary fund was not only from March 2022 to March 2023 but also had an extension in the next three years, until completion of the industrial plan whose full implementation is set for 2025.
Another point of dispute raised by the trade unions is the fact that the company has subordinated full employment not to 6 million tons of steel, which is what is foreseen by the agreement at the Mise of September 2018, when ArcelorMittal took over from Ilva in extraordinary administration. , as well as the provisions of the Integrated Environmental Authorization, but to 8 million tons. Which are the new level of production of the industrial plan, however, placed in 2025.
Acciaierie d’Italia argued that the continuation of the extraordinary fund in subsequent years and the reabsorption of personnel with 8 million tons, were aspects already specified in the letter with which the social safety nets procedure was started in recent weeks. For the unions, the company cannot expect what is written in a letter to become reality, otherwise, they underline, it would make no sense to negotiate. Finally, on Monday 28, the UILM and Usb unions called one in Taranto strike in the first round against layoffs.
