The social giant Facebook suffered its second global outage this week on Friday. Facebook apologized to users for the two-hour service interruption on Friday, and attributed the cause to another misconfiguration change.Facebook confirmed that its main Facebook application and its Instagram, Messenge, and enterprise communications software Workplace were affected by the latest outage.
“We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been unable to access our products in the past two hours,” Facebook said. “We have fixed the problem and everything should be back to normal now.”
During the latest outage, some users were unable to load their Instagram feeds, while others were unable to post messages on Messenger. People quickly shared emojis on Twitter in response to Facebook’s second service interruption this week, joking.
“It looks like Facebook works 3 days a week and is closed on Monday and Friday?” said a Twitter user.
Facebook suffered a nearly 6-hour global downtime accident on Monday, which prevented its 3.5 billion users from accessing its social media and chat services, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. Monday’s accident was the largest outage ever seen by the outage monitoring company Downdetector, helping its rival’s app usage skyrocket. For example, the chat application Telegram gained more than 70 million new users in one day.
Russian officials said Mondayās outage showed that Russiaās development of an autonomous social network was the right decision. Margrethe Vestager, head of EU antitrust affairs, emphasized the consequences of relying on only a few large companies, stating that these companies need more opponents.
Two outages in a week put Facebook under more pressure. Earlier, a whistleblower accused Facebook of putting company profits above the fight against hate speech and misinformation.
