A day without particular ideas for European stock markets, mainly focused on quarterly reports. At Piazza Affari, the Ftse Mib ended up 0.3% at 31,156 points, with Iveco Group (+7.7%) at the top after the accounts, followed by Leonardo (+3.3%), which confirmed the guidance 2023. On the other hand, the utilities Hera (-2.4%), A2a (-2.6%) and Erg (-2.7%) retreated.

On Wall Street, a new record for the S&P 500 above 5,000 points, while the revision of the CPI data on inflation did not signal any major upheavals, fueling hopes of a slowdown in prices to support rate cuts in the short term.

From the macro agenda came the Italian data for December on industrial production, increasing by 1.1% on a monthly basis and exceeding expectations.

Over the next week, attention will be paid mainly to American data on consumer prices (Tuesday) and retail sales, as well as on the interventions of central bankers, including Christine Lagarde for the ECB. Focus also on the earnings season in Europe and Italy.

On bonds, the BTP-Bund spread exceeds 157 bp, with the yield on the Italian 10-year bond rising to 3.95% and that of the Bund to 2.38%, while the 10-year US Treasury rose to 4.18%.

Among raw materials, Brent oil stabilizes above 81 dollars a barrel after this week’s increases, while on the Forex the euro/dollar exchange rate is little changed at 1.078 and the dollar/yen is equal to 149.3.
