Fitness group is considering gyms in retirement homes

Michael Antonopoulos has worked for Kieser since 2004 and has been the group’s CEO since 2009. Together with board member Nils Planzer, he acquired the fitness group from founders Werner and Gabriela Kieser in 2017. Werner Kieser, who built up the company in 1967, died in 2021. According to his own statement, Antonopoulos has been doing strength training since he was 16 years old.

Kieser owns 172 studios in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Australia, some of which are operated by franchisees. The focus is Germany with 116 studios. Sales were recently over 170 million euros. Without the Australian market, Kieser has 240,000 members. The group’s headquarters is in Zurich.
