ROME (ITALPRESS) – The number of tourists who traveled with the main motivation of experiencing food and wine increases by 10%. Tourists who discover the hinterland starting from the sea appear increasingly aware, active, demanding, innovative and attentive to the issues of safety and sustainability. This is what emerges from the fourth edition of the Report on Italian Food and Wine Tourism 2021, edited by Roberta Garibaldi and presented this morning in the Senate in the presence, among others, of the Minister of Tourism, Massimo Garavaglia, of the Undersecretary for Agricultural Policies, Gianmarco Centinaio and the president Enit, Giorgio Palmucci, the group leader in the Senate of Forza Italia, Annamaria Bernini. In 2020, Italian tourists have therefore rediscovered Italy as a destination, a choice almost forced by the restrictions, with the seaside resorts that have become the gateway to participate in food and wine experiences in the hinterland (53% of food and wine tourists), in front of the cities of art and mountain destinations. The desire to live in the open air pushes tourists to search for accommodations such as farmhouses (86% intend to stay there) and country relais (59%), with a search for innovative solutions among which food-themed hotels stand out. wine (56%), glamping (29%) and tree houses (32%). In the choice of hotels, the presence of an offer that enhances typical local foods appears increasingly decisive, and 80% of the interviewees expect a breakfast based on local products. Among the Italian regions – the Report reads – Sicily stands out as the most desired food and wine destination, followed by Emilia Romagna, Campania, Puglia and Tuscany. The city preferred by food and wine tourists is Naples preceding Bologna, followed by Palermo for Italians in general and Rome for food and wine tourists. The ranking of foreign countries considered the best destination from the food and wine point of view sees Spain in first place, followed by France and Greece. Paris gains the first position, follow me Barcelona and Madrid. “The message given by President Draghi is very clear, Italy is open, the tourism sector has restarted its engines and is ready to start again. The 7 points of the document approved by the G20 are perfectly in line with food and wine tourism. We have the possibility of restart very quickly and food and wine is the sector that can run faster “, said the Minister of Tourism, Massimo Garavaglia. “Greater organization allows us to enhance our territories and by working together I am convinced that we can win” this challenge, he concluded. “Food and wine tourism in Italy has enormous margins for growth”, explained the Undersecretary for Agricultural Policies, Gianmarco Centinaio. “The excellence of Made in Italy can become a driving force for the entire sector. An emblematic example is represented by wine, the union between a product and the enhancement of its territory. Each of our regions is a journey of taste. In the post-pandemic future I am sure that there will be many opportunities in the name of living well and respecting environmental sustainability “, he added. According to Giorgio Palmucci, president of Enit, it is necessary to prepare for “this restart that will take place. After a terrible year that we have experienced due to Covid, we are preparing for a summer season that we hope will see the return of those tourist flows both but also of neighboring countries. It is clear that the speed of the vaccination campaign will help the recovery, we are also optimistic that the rules at EU level will make it easier to access our territory. From the point of view of food and wine tourism – ha added – we believe that one of the fundamental reasons in choosing our country is also the great wealth, variety of our foods and agricultural products. Food and wine represents one of the reasons for choosing together with the cultural heritage that will lead us to see the stars again and return to those numbers that have been drastically interrupted in the last year “.
