For 7 million Italians comes the fourteenth: 30% will be spent on holidays

by admin

The fourteenth, the extra monthly payment arriving between June and July for 7.5 million Italians, could give a fundamental boost to consumption, and in particular to tourism. The largest portion of this treasury of a total of € 6.8 billion will in fact be invested in holidays, which should go to around € 2 billion, 29% of the total of the fourteenth. This is what emerges from the elaborations of Confesercenti on the basis of a survey conducted by Swg. However, the pending accounts (especially debts with the tax authorities, bills, stamps and overdue fines) also weigh heavily due to the crisis triggered by the pandemic, which will absorb over 1.4 billion.

The weight of mortgages and loans is also important – highlights the analysis – to pay for which Italians will use 16% – over 1 billion euros – of their fourteenths. The rest will be invested mainly in clothing purchases in view of the summer sales at the beginning of July, an occasion for which the 14th earners will set aside 690 million euros, 10% of the total. A percentage just higher than that allocated to health care costs (637 million, 9%), while the remaining items of expenditure would absorb 10%. Almost nothing will end up in the drawer: savings and investments will go to 5%, about 319 million euros.

“The arrival of the fourteenth could give an extra boost to family spending,” explains Confesercenti. «If we also consider the increase in savings by workers not directly invested by the pandemic crisis, the conditions for a summer season of resumption of domestic consumption at pre-pandemic levels are there. Fundamental consumption in a summer which, unfortunately, will still be characterized by the lack of foreign tourism, and the expense generated by this in the area ».
