For Edison seven small hydroelectric plants

by admin

Edison, already dedicated to renewable energies, continues to grow in hydroelectricity and does so in Valle d’Aosta by acquiring 100% of the company Hydro Dynamics which owns 7 mini-hydro plants. In this way, Edison strengthens its presence in the Region and its commitment in the sector of small-scale hydroelectric plants, which is key in the development strategy of the renewable and low carbon energy production company. The power plants involved in the operation are located between Val d’Ayas and Saint Vincent along the tributaries of the Dora Baltea, for a total installed capacity of 4.1 MW and an annual production of approximately 12.2 GWh, equal to the average annual consumption. of over 4,400 families. the power plants, set on the slopes of the Monte Rosa massif, are all recently built (between 2013 and 2020) and are fully integrated into the landscape, in harmony with the surrounding naturalistic and environmental context.

“The acquisition of Hydro Dynamics plants is an operation that contributes to the consolidation of Edison” says Marco Stangalino, Executive Vice President of Power Asset Edison “in a Region, that of Valle d’Aosta, which has great potential for development in the hydroelectric sector and in which a historic operator like us, who built the country’s first hydroelectric plants at the end of the 19th century, can bring great skills, with a view to managing renewable resources and sharing benefits with local communities “.

Edison is already active in the hydroelectric sector of the Aosta Valley thanks to four small-scale power plants acquired by the company Eaux Valdotaines (Hydroelectric Brusson, Hydroelectric Cervino and Hydroelectric St Barth Basso) which have a total installed capacity of 7.6 MW and a production annual of about 19.6 Gwh, equivalent to the average annual consumption of over 7,200 families. With the operation announced today, Edison’s hydroelectric park increases to 104 hydroelectric plants, 61 of which are mini-hydro, for a total renewable capacity, including the wind and photovoltaic installed, exceeding 2,000 MW. In 2020 Edison, which is the third Italian operator by installed electrical capacity with approximately 7 GW of power distributed throughout the Italian territory, produced more than 18 TWh of electricity, covering 7% of national production.
