The return to the old EU budget rules in 2023 “is an open question, we have 15-16 months to find a solution”: Economy Minister Daniele Franco said on the sidelines of the informal Ecofin in Slovenia. However, the minister said he was “calm” that Ecofin will find a solution “as always”.

There is dialogue, obviously in all directions, we know that we have 15 months to find solutions “, said the minister according to whom” there is no opposition, we are convinced that the debt must be reduced and that this is also useful for our growth, in the long run a lower debt helps the growth of a country ».
This is also why Franco stressed that the reduction of the deficit and debt «is a path that we are following anyway. The set of rules may later tell us whether to go faster or slower, but that’s not our greatest concern right now. The resources of the national plan are very large, the challenge is now to use them, rather than asking for further margins for other investments in 2022 ».
