During 2021, China’s domestic product grew by 8.1%, well beyond the growth target set by the Beijing government, equal to an expansion of 6%, and beyond the forecasts of various economists.
However, the evident slowdown in Chinese GDP in the fourth quarter of 2021 highlights the problems of the economy, which is facing a severe crisis in the real estate market, the recurrence of new Covid-19 infections and a zero tolerance policy towards the virus.
In the fourth quarter of 2021, GDP grew by just 4% on an annual basis. Although higher than the + 3.6% expected by the consensus, the figure reported the slowest pace of growth in a year and a half.
On a quarterly basis, the increase was + 1.6%.
