Google’s parent company Alphabet said it would cut about 12,000 jobs, more than 6% of the global workforce.
Google is the latest US tech giant to downsize after years of buoyant growth and hiring.
The cuts will affect jobs globally and all sectors of the company, Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai wrote in an email to employees on Friday, stressing that he takes “full responsibility for the decisions that brought us here ”.
