The first and important chapter of the Idrability is the one dedicated to the rehabilitation of the Sarno, one of the most polluted rivers in Europe which, together with its tributaries, covers an area of 500 square kilometers with a population of about 850,000 inhabitants. Gori – reads the sustainability report – has been identified as the implementing body of a program of works financed by the Campania Region for approximately 167 million. For now, this intervention has resulted in the commissioning of the first branches of the “sub1” and “sub 2” collectors which have made it possible to eliminate the discharges into the environment of over 150,000 equivalent inhabitants, that is, the pollution produced by both residents and settlements industrial. Interventions are planned for the activation of further sections of the sewer network that will also connect the municipalities of Ottaviano and Poggiomarino to the purification. The plan provides for numerous other interventions. “Of course – the document underlines – in order to make the infrastructures implemented operational, it is necessary for citizens to regularize their position, carrying out the procedures for connecting their users to the sewer network: a fundamental step for averting any hygienic-sanitary criticality and guaranteeing the correct collection of wastewater to the purification plant ». Having sewers and purifiers and not using them is a paradox that is no longer acceptable. It is also necessary to point out that the pollution of the Sarno is a very serious and long-standing problem and still so serious as to require much greater and above all resolutive efforts.
Dialogue with local communities
Gori started the “Energie per il Sarno” project, in order to lay the foundations for a permanent dialogue with the municipal administrations. The purpose of the initiative, to which 33 mayors have joined, is to acquire, through listening, the requests of the protagonists of the communities, involving them. A path already started in 2019 with information and awareness on some issues. These include the “Plastic Free” project, to reduce the use of single-use plastic, and the communication campaign “A click for the Sarno”, which invites users to join the “Bolletta Web” service. The Sarno valley is home to numerous factories of vegetable preserves, specialized above all in the processing of tomatoes. Gori has also started a dialogue with the trade association, Anicav, in order to improve the effectiveness of the purification processes without compromising the production aspects.
Water dispersion
One of the most urgent challenges to be faced by water service managers throughout the country. This is even more true of Gori. The losses had a percentage reduction of 5.87%, higher than the target set by Arera (equal to 5% for 2020). This has also happened thanks to GIS, the digitalization system of the water distribution and collection networks, the systems serving the collection and distribution service (springs, wells, tanks, water lifting systems, dividers) and the collection and treatment systems. (sewer lifting, purification, overflow artifacts).
