The green light for the occupation of the area

The new international terminal managed by the Group is located in a 350-meter stretch of quay out of the more than 1500 total of the Port of Cagliari with an area behind it of approximately 86,000 square meters. While waiting for the authorization, the green light has arrived for the early occupation of the area to intercept the local import-export traffic. «We know that the new international terminal of Grendi does not represent the solution to all the problems of the Canale port – continues the manager -. For almost two centuries we have been accustomed to taking steps consistent with a vision of sustainable development and growth and with this spirit we believe that the concession of the quay of the Canale port is an important opportunity to put the port of Cagliari back on the radar of the large shipping companies ” . In the first half of 2021, the Group moved 17,500 TEU (the unit of measurement of containers equivalent to 20 feet) in the Cagliari terminal, up 7% compared to 2020, of containers from / to abroad “for customers such as Hapag Lloyd and MSC “. Not only that, on the island, in light of the latest concession, the group has 175,000 square meters of distribution warehouses. It is the hub for the transport and distribution of products of large companies.

Future projects

As for the plans for the future, Musso clarifies that «there are many initiatives implemented by the Group to strengthen freight traffic with Sardinia. With this last concession we have strengthened the operational area of the terminals and warehouses managed by the group and we also plan to double the warehouse already present in Cagliari – he concludes -. This, with the start of the new maritime line at the beginning of the year, from Marina di Carrara to Olbia is a tangible sign of the Group’s interest in Sardinia ».
