by admin

The key points

  • A train for export
  • The order to Bombardier
  • New headquarters in Genoa

Gts Rail, the Apulian railway company, intercepts the continuous growth in demand for transport to / from Northern Europe and plans a new intermodal service on the Parma-port of Zeebrugge (Belgium). The choice is not accidental: Belgium is the country with a 94% intermodal share in transport and its port, which has become an important European distribution center thanks to its favorable position, handles over 40 million tons of goods per year.

Furthermore, its organization will allow GTS to arrive directly at the Britannia dock Cobelfret from which it will be possible to embark, without the need for maneuvers, for various destinations of the UK, including Purfleet and Killingholme.

A train for export

Alessio Muciaccia, CEO of GTS, says: «Rail freight transport, with Brexit and then the pandemic, has become increasingly necessary compared to road transport and has acquired greater support. And the train turned out to be a sort of engine for our exports as well. Being able to offer more transport options and greater volume capacities allows us to provide more solutions, all in a more sustainable way for the environment and more economical for our customers ».

Thanks to this further new service, Gts Rail consolidates its presence at the Cepim terminal in Parma and with Terminali Italia, on which the three-weekly connection with Ulm (Germany) already operates and from which an upcoming connection to Bari is expected. ” We count – concludes Muciaccia – to increase the frequencies of this new international shuttle in close proximity ».

The order to Bombardier

The health crisis does not stop GTS, which continues invest even in full pandemic, confirming the strategic role that the logistics and freight transport sector has played since the beginning of the emergency, guaranteeing the supply of basic necessities (from food to health products). In recent months the railway manufacturer Bombardier Transportation (now part of the French group Alstom) and Gts Rail have further strengthened their partnership by signing a new order for three new Bombardier Traxx DC3 E.494 type locomotives. This increases Gts Rail’s fleet of Traxx locomotives, reaching a total of 20 units, all produced by Bombardier, including 8 of the latest generation. The locomotives are manufactured at the Bombardier site in I’m going to Liguria (Savona).
