According to the relevant agreement, the headquarters of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the global unicorn base of Hurun Report will be located in Guangzhou High-tech Zone, and an independent legal entity will be established to operate. In March 2022, Hurun Report will also hold the “Global Unicorn CEO Forum” in Guangzhou.
The “2021 Global Unicorn List” released on the same day showed that there were 1,058 unicorn companies in the world, an increase of 80% (472) over last year. The United States ranked first with 487, China ranked second with 301, and the United States and China accounts for 74% of the total number of “unicorns” in the world. And 17% (51) of China’s unicorn companies are headquartered in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. There are 673 new unicorn companies on the list this year, including 347 in the United States and 146 in China. 201 “unicorns” from last year dropped out of the list. 28% (162) of the companies on the list last year were “upgraded” or “downgraded”, including listing, decline in valuation or mergers and acquisitions. Among them, Xiaopeng Motors is the best performing “pre-unicorn” since its listing, and its current market value is about 300 billion yuan (RMB, the same below) is nearly three times the first day of listing.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is one of the regions with the highest degree of openness and the strongest economic vitality in China. The person in charge of Hurun Report stated that the important reason why Hurun Report chose to cooperate with Guangzhou on the “Global Unicorn List” is that Guangzhou has an environment suitable for cultivating “unicorns” and suitable for the growth of “unicorns”.
